How Agent Funk Turned a Somerset Orchard Into a Soul & Funk Dancefloor Extravaganza
When it comes to weddings, there’s rustic… and then there’s next-level orchard-party magic. Earlier this summer, Agent Funk, your favourite wedding band in Bristol, had the absolute pleasure of bringing the funk to Emily and Ashley’s big day — and trust us, this one was unforgettable.
Held in Wincanton, Somerset — AKA the bride’s parents’ house turned dream venue — this wasn’t your standard marquee-on-a-lawn affair. This was a perfectly styled celebration complete with a stretch tent in an orchard, twinkly fairy lights, and one of the most enthusiastic dancefloors we’ve seen all year.
When the Driveway Leads to the Dancefloor
The day started with a scenic drive through Somerset countryside, GPS locked in on a rather charming location. The instructions were clear — look for the primary school, turn at the right moment, and cruise past the four-door garage to a tucked-away performance area surrounded by apple trees.
And that’s where we found our stage: a dry, level, and beautifully lit area in the orchard with a 4.5m x 4.5m hard floor (a dream for any Bristol function band — no mud in the amps, thanks very much).
Wedding Music That Keeps the Vibe Just Right
We kicked off the night with our signature soul and funk tunes around 8pm, as requested by Emily and Ashley. No first dance? No problem. We launched straight into a set list designed to pull guests out of their seats — and it worked instantly. The orchard transformed into a festival-style groove garden, with everyone from the bridal party to the couple’s aunties busting moves like they were on Soul Train.
With our two one-hour sets (8–9pm and 10–11pm), we kept the energy high all evening, sandwiching our live performances with a playlist supplied by the couple themselves — complete with an MP3 player and the right adaptor (bonus points to Emily for being that organised).
Good Food, Good Company, Great Vibes
Let’s take a moment to talk about the catering — the bride’s auntie pulled off a masterclass in feeding a crowd. Our band members (including our vegetarian folks) were well looked after with a butternut squash main and plenty of vegan sides. And yes, soft drinks were flowing — hydration matters when you’re funking for two hours straight.
Behind the Scenes, Everything Ran Smoothly
From the moment we arrived, Harry the groomsman was on hand to help coordinate, making load-in and setup a breeze. With weddings at private homes, you never know exactly what you’re walking into — but thanks to thoughtful planning (and great parking access), this one was smooth sailing.
If you’re looking through lists of wedding bands Bristol has to offer and wondering who actually knows how to work with a private venue setup, tight family timelines, and a garden full of very happy people — hi, it’s us.
The Kind of Night We Live For
As one of the best wedding bands in Bristol, we’ve played in all sorts of places — castles, tipis, village halls — but there’s something special about a garden party wedding with soul. The music echoed through the orchard, the fairy lights glowed, and for a few perfect hours, it felt like the whole world had come to dance.
So, if you’re searching for Bristol bands for hire, or looking to lock in your wedding band hire in Bristol style, consider this a sign: Agent Funk brings the party wherever we go.
It was a pleasure to work alongside Melissa Clark Photography for the event.
